David Scott is a graduate of Bishop's University and holds an MBA from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He has spent over 40 years in investment analysis and management.

He founded, built, and sold a mutual fund management company, Scotiafund Financial Services Inc. With Peter Marshall, he established Seamark, later the largest independent investment counseling firm in Atlantic Canada.

He later became president of North American Life's early stage venture capital affiliate, Toronto Shared Ventures Inc.

In 1988, Mr. Scott joined Discovery Enterprises Inc. as President and Chief Executive Officer. From 1994 to 1999, working with MDS Capital Corporation of Toronto, he founded and managed MDS Ventures Pacific Inc. in Vancouver.

Scott has served as Chairman of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada. He founded or collaborated in the early stages of a number of mutual fund entities including AcroFund, Elliott & Page Money Fund, Scotiafund Financial Services Ltd and Clarington Funds Inc. In 1996 he played a key role in the founding of AnortMED Inc, a Vancouver-based biotechnology company, with initial capital of $30 million. Scott served as its Chairman for the following 10 years and shortly after his retirement from the Board, AnorMED was sold to Genzyme for almost $600 million.

He was Chairman of the Advisory Board of the British Columbia Life Sciences Fund until its successful windup in 2004. He served as Vice-Chairman of the Institut National d'Optique (Quebec) and was a Founding Director of the Academy of Chief Executives of Technology Companies (Vancouver). He retired in February 2013, after six years of service, as Chairman of the Independent Review Committee for all of the mutual funds managed by Fidelity Investments Canada ULC. He remains a member of the Independent Review Committee for North Growth Funds in Vancouver.
